Social infrastructure Germany PPP projects with a future
In Germany, as elsewhere, public-private partnership (PPP) models are increasingly proving their value in the field of social infrastructure. According to the Central Federation of the German Construction Industry, the number of building construction projects awarded to public-private partnerships up to April 2010 totaled 141. At the beginning of 2008, HOCHTIEF Concessions set a milestone in this business field when it was awarded the contract to finance, plan refurbish/build and then operate the Fürst Wrede Military Base in Munich the first-ever PPP project in the defense sector in Germany. For the German government, this serves as a pilot project for PPP in the field of public buildings.
Up to now, such partnerships have been used mainly for schools and administrative facilities. And these are segments where HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions is particularly well positioned. In the company's Public Buildings Germany branch, experienced teams are responsible for schools in Frankfurt am Main, Cologne, Leverkusen, Offenbach and Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn and for the city halls in Gladbeck and Moers.
